My 3 Biggest Mistakes from last Deer Season

My 3 Biggest Mistakes from last Deer Season
I’ve ran an old climber that weighs probably 35lbs for years. I decided at 38yo I was ready for something lighter to get into the mobile hunting deal. I borrowed a tethrd phantom back in march and tried it out along with a one stick setup. The one stick/repel combo is pretty convenient I just couldn’t get comfortable and my hips were sore from it after trying it out for a weekend. I ended up ordering a hang on stand from xop. Idk if it was that particular saddle or all of them feel about the same.
What part of NoDak was this? I’m up in Minot! Got drawn for a rifle tag this year but also going to bow hunt as much as I can! Will be my first year hunting up here. Came from Western North Carolina.
Great video! Got my method 2 for Christmas and I’m beyond excited to get out and hunt in it at the end of August! What pack would you recommend? That’s the last thing I need before the season gets here. I’ve got the full size seeker platform, latitude SS sticks. Need a pack that’ll haul that stuff plus my cold weather gear for later in the season (firstlite solitude bibs and jacket) I don’t really care to get a huge frame pack as I don’t plan on packing a deer out. Thanks for the video and any advice you have on a pack! Good luck this season!
In the big scheme of things all that matters is seeing a shooter on camera. It doesn’t have to be crystal clear. 22:13
Thanks for the information.
Had a 3 point bed down in front of my stand a few years back. Stayed for an hour. Always a cool time.
How difficult is this in cold weather with multiple layers and gloves on? Seems like there are many times you could drop something, especially trying to do this in the dark.
More of a photographer then a hunter it looks like
I still kill more bucks than you buddy
Have yet to check my cameras, hope the few smaller bucks I passed are still around!
Thanks for the great video and detail. Is that a Darton SL50 on your wall? 🧐
With a couple months yet to grow, that will be a nice buck!!
I also cut my teeth in Northern Michigan! It was more like 30 years ago, and strictly ground hunted for the first 10 or so years. What a game changing development saddle hunting is! Keep up the great work.
Great vid my dude.
Funny how the title says 2024, yet it was uploaded two years ago. You must have predicted the future and still no reply to my previous comment. 🙄
What was your other question?
@NextStepOutdoors I posted it 7 months ago. I asked how long do the batteries generally last on these cameras? Can you use rechargeable AAA batteries in them? And can you power them with a power bank?
Battery life depends on a lot of factors like whether you have it set to video or picture mode, as well as how frequently the camera is triggered. I typically run lithium AA batteries though and they will list up to a year in most cases. I believe you could use rechargeable AA batteries but I've never explored that option. Most are able to run off of a 12v battery too but not a power bank.
@@NextStepOutdoors ah OK. Thanks for the information, that's really helpful.
@@MrBooojangles the reason I updated this title was because these cameras are all still super relevant FYI
Creates a bottleneck where the wildlife must pass thru.
Bingo
Been hunting in a saddle since the mid 80’s. Doesn’t matter how long it takes. Take your time, be safe, and enjoy the outdoors!
Super cool!
I lugged a 35lb climber around (not including bow & bag) for my first two years. This past year was my first season in a Custom Gear Modifications Sidewinder saddle and XOP for everything else. No complaints here!
That sounds brutal! Your profile walking through the woods is probably half of what is was in addition to the weight savings!
Last year I as my first year saddle hunting, it’s unbelievable how much harder it is than it looks, I love it, but damn it’s not easy to get setup in the tree, especially when you get a bunch of clothes on in the winter!!
Practice, practice, practice! Glad you stuck with it instead of giving up.
Hope he has tick spray on lol
thought he said 25 yards from my mine💀
Hunt wise is better
What features do you like about it? I’m not sure I can be convinced that there’s a better overall app than onx.
@@NextStepOutdoors easier to use and the gps is better and it's cheaper
Don’t own one, looking to get one. New at the bow and hunting thing learning everything so thanks.🙏🏽
So excited for you!
This is something I need. My pants don’t breath at all and I sweat like crazy on my walk in.
Where do you pee when up the tree?
On the ground somewhere I’m not going to lower my bow. Also have to miss all the climbing sticks lol. It’s not that hard tho.
@@NextStepOutdoors So you are not concerned about the smell spooky the deer?
@@williamchester5001not at all. I’d bet 99% of the best deer hunters pee out of their tree.
Glad to Sad in five Minutes ,Sucks ,the Beetles are fat now
Bummer for sure
Send me some pins 😂
What pattern is that?
La nuit pleine de mystères est mon REFUGE et m appartient.. La forêt s éveille et ses habitants se promènent.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Im not sure why everyone cares about speed. If it takes 5 minutes or 30 minute's as long as you're safe and quiet. Who cares 🤷
I think a lot of people are deterred by thinking this style of hunting will take an hour to get up and down the tree. Time is super valuable for a lot of reasons. There is no denying that anything past a half hour would be a major inconvenience and may prevent you from getting a quick hunt in here or there. Also, someone might think twice before hiking a mile in and then setting up if it was going to take a long time.
Yea East Tex too
Starting to see more and more!
Had to be a hard decision your doing what people dream of daily. Good luck !
It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done but wouldn’t change it for the world!
Great video , i came back to your channel to see how you had those bungeed together and what do you know you had this video up !! 👍
That’s exactly why I made it! Glad it helped!
Yes on knee pads
Must have. Idk how I went without them the first bunch of seasons I saddle hunted.
Have a custom made soft saddle two panel similar Eberhart signature, but made a rigid saddle, very comfortable
Did you make it yourself or order it)
Watched a bunch of your videos…new subscriber!!! Good luck to you 👊🏻
